Madame Menaka Festival
The Madame Menaka Choreography Movement is a distinctive two-day dance festival, dedicated to honoring the late Kathak dancer, choreographer, and dance guru Leila Sokhey, affectionately known as Madame Menaka. This festival is meticulously organised by Shama Bhate, who shares a deep admiration for Madame Menaka’s legacy. One remarkable aspect of the festival is its focus on choreographies inspired by proverbs. This innovative approach challenges choreographers to transcend traditional mythological themes and create performances rooted in contemporary wisdom. Each performance is followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion.
